Key findings

May 2020, Government published survey results indicating that 9% of people in Malta would be extremely uncomfortable working with Muslim colleagues. According to 27%, not enough was being done to accommodate those with different skin colours or ethnicities or with different religious beliefs in the workplace. Muslim women may experience employment discrimination on the basis of their gender, race, and religion. 14% of migrants had experienced harassment in the 12 months prior to taking the survey. 50% of respondents had experienced harassment a minimum of six times and 7% had experienced racially motivated physical attacks in the past five years. Malta is also reported to have a high prevalence of online hate speech targeted towards racial, ethnic and religious minorities.
